With the holiday season fast approaching I decided to make a Christmas card for our current Dare, using some of Emerald Creek Craft Supplies wonderful stamps, charms and embossing powders.  Since we don't have any cardinals out here in the west I transformed Emerald Creeks Cardinal stamp into a Stellar Jay and gave him a wee gold pine cone to offer up as a Christmas gift.  Hope you can pop by my blog for my how to, happy holidays everyone!

Taking Centre Stage today is

For this month's EC Anything Goes Dare I made a snow inspired seasonal card.

I love the crisp whites, cool blues, and shimmery tones of iridescent and silver sparkle that come with a winter wonderland. I used a 4x6 Wild Whispers card as part of the base and then added a bevy of beautiful snowflakes; both stamp embossed and metal. You can find out more on how to create this beauty on my blog.
Wishing you all the best of the Holiday Season!

Happy Holidays! - Anything Goes by Kim #16 of 40

Happy Holidays!

I can't believe it is December 1st, and we have so many things happening it's CRAZY.

To start we are launching the Anything Goes Challenge. Show off your creative talents to win!

Stay tuned for the StencilGirl & Emerald Creek blog hop happening Dec 13 - Dec 15. We have some seriously talented people whipping up some amazing projects.

I wanted to get a little creative with an Eileen Hull Journal Die and some Mat board.

So, I cut down the mat board in half ran it through the Big Shot, then cut down the spine to 1 width not 2 and embossed the cover with a Sizzix branch embossing folder (Tim Holtz).

I played with color bursts, mica sprays and then went to the good and faithful embossing powders ;)

Oil Rubbed bronze seemed like the perfect choice and because it is not chunky , it revealed the embossed branch, giving a very leathery look to the cover.

I loved it, but the gloss finish was a little excessive. Thanks to my sister Vicki teaching me to sand off the finish, I grabbed my block and dulled the surface, leaving the grooves shiny and really emphasizing the leather look.

I then grabbed a Merry Christmas Die from Suzanne at Quietfire Designs by Elizabeth Craft Designs, embossed it with Red Sparkle Embossing powder and glued it to the Cover.

Then I had some wired burlap like ribbon that I stained with frayed burlap. I inked the spine with ground espresso and then tied on the ribbon, using 2 of the Emerald Creek pinecones and some random jewelry used straight pins.

We had our first stumper for a challenge. I can't believe no one came up with an unsung hero to honour.

Better luck this time.

Unsung Heroes - Pt 2 Kim 15 of 40

We have another page to my Unsung Heroes Journal

As I have been working on this project there was a woman who spoke about family history at church. It kind of sent me on a bit of a different journey and since my family really stand out as unsung heroes, I decided to shift my albums focus to a long term family history project.

I started with the Sizzix's Journal Die and Mat Board by Eileen Hull.

I used a piece of ephemera photography album, crackle & grit pastes, Distress and Oxide inks, Wendy's Cornflower Mica Spray from Ranger Ink, and the blossoms mini stencil from Stampers Anonymous. Add a chipboard frame from Southern Ridge Trading Co. and of course Emerald Creek Charred Gold & the new Cool Lagoon powder.

Onto the pages...

Today I used a map from Altered Pages digital images. Digital images were a new concept to me and after printing and wrecking and re-printing, I found a love for what you can do with a digital image.

I start with my husband's grandparents. They were amazing people and from day one, embraced me into their family. Both have since past and I thought it fitting to re-unite them on this page.

For this page, I tacked a piece of tissue paper to a piece of heavy cardstock, set up my file in the computer and then printed onto the tissue paper.  This technique will only work on a direct feed printer. (Direct feed means the paper goes in one side and feeds out the other, it does not change direction in the printer)

I spray glued my folded cardstock page from the book and then adhered the tissue paper map.

Then I pasted some accents with Seth Apter's Timeless stencil (one of my favourites) I can use all the bits and pieces on so many projects.

Adding a bit of distress ink and spritzing it with some Wendy Vecchi Mica Spray (cornflower) the result was perfectly aged with shimmer of colour.
